SPORTS DAY WINNERS 2018
THE GREEN TEAM
The pupils had another great day this year as we were blessed with glorious sunshine.
Novelty races such as the sack race, dress up, welly throwing, tyre rolling and potato+spoon were both amusing and enjoyable. At the Sprint station we saw some fantastic athletes and even had a photo line finish. We tallied all the scores in each class grouping and added them altogether to find the overall winner of this years team events. Green team came out on top, narrowly beating White team by 15 points.
Thanks to our active Parents Association and all those who took part in the Bag Pack this year as money raised paid for our new Sports Day Trophy along with plaques for the victorious sprinters. The parents also invested in new equipment and they manned the delicious, healthy rest station in the midday sun. Thanks to all volunteers and to Shannon Town for the use of their pitch.

The Salmon of Knowledge
Rang a Dó agus a Trí worked very hard for two full weeks to create their version of this famous Irish myth.
Firstly we each planned and created our illustrations. Next we typed text to form our narrative and finally we edited our work. Using Powerpoint we added transitions, background designs and sound to our slides. Check out the finished product below.
Writing a book is hard work!We hope you enjoy it and we are looking forward to creating more books in the future.

If I built a house!!
'House and Homes' is our new Aistear theme in Junior Infants this month. We are busy doing all the jobs in the house during play time: sorting the food, setting the table, cleaning the house, taking telephone messages and writing them down and even sorting out the baking utensils in the kitchen :) We also read one of our favourite stories so far this year called 'If I built a House'. After this story we designed our own homes. We drew them first, then filled in the outline with crayons and lastly painted them with lots of beautiful colours.

Local history - a visit to hastings cottage
On Friday, September 22nd, the children from 3rd to 6th class set out walking on the Shannon Loop trail as they made their way to Hastings Cottage located behind Illamanaugh graveyard.
The cottage, which is the oldest building in Shannon, can be found just opposite the newest building i.e. Shannon Crematorium.
Olive Carey, from Dúchas na Sionna, was there to meet the children and to give them a detailed insight into the life of the Hastings family and Life in rineanna about a hundred years ago.
