“Go raibh maith agat Ms. O’Neill”
The day has come for Ms. O’Neill to bid farewell to the corridors of St. Senan’s N.S. The school community will be forever indebted to her for the years of hard work and dedication she showed as principal for the past 17 years. Each morning she greeted the boys and girls with a smile and a warm welcome and this morning was their turn to greet her for her final walk through the playground. She instilled a belief in the children that anything is possible with hard work and a positive attitude. Ms. O’Neill will forever be remembered by the community of Drumgeely and the town of Shannon for the commitment she gave to St. Senan’s. She maintained important links with sports clubs, ensuring the sporting tradition is upheld in the school. She encouraged each child to utilise their talents to the best of their ability and it was wonderful to see many of those past pupils present in the school yard this morning – a true testament to the regard that the community of St. Senan’s hold for her. We will miss her dearly but know that her journey does not stop here. We take this opportunity to say “Go raibh maith agat Ms. O’Neill” for your commitment, diligence and enthusiasm each and every day over the last 17 years. Go n-éirí an bóthar leat.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MOLLY Mcphillips
overall winner of
Shannon biodiversity garden competition
and also to our runners up
aoife, bridget, emily, jack and mark!
watcH rte'S NEWS report ON RTE PLAYER:
"News2today" - Tuesday 16th march EPISODE!
Congratulations to Molly from 3rd Class, who won a major competition to design a special biodiversity garden which is being planted on lands adjacent to Shannon Airport. The garden plan by Molly came out on top among 70 entries across Co Clare. Molly said she wanted her garden to be "magical and friendly" and to have lots of animals, native trees, a wildflower meadow and to be safe for all in the community to visit.
We are also super proud of Molly, Aoife, Bridget, Emily, Jack, Mark and their teacher Ms Walsh on their representation of the school on RTE News2Today! Special mention to Ms O'Leary who took on the initiative at the early stages of the competition. Well done everyone!! |
Molly and her classmates were busy planting sunflower seeds at the garden with the help of gardeners from the heritage section of the Shannon Group which runs Bunratty Castle and Folk Park.
Check out the Garda Art Exhibition around the town in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. The colourful pieces from our 2nd and 3rd class children are on display in Shannon Garda Station, Shannon Fire Station, Insommnia Cafe and Dunnes Stores, Texaco and Clare County Council Offices all in the Shannon Town area. Although a parade could not take place this year, this exhibition adds a splash of colour on behalf of the children, to the people and surrounding areas of Shannon.
Thank you to Shannon Gardai for involving the children of St. Senan's in this initiative! |

showing we care
letters to care homes & hospitals
The residents of Carrigoran House Nursing Home in Newmarket-On-Fergus received ‘messages of hope’ from some of our 5th and 6th class children. Those living at the nursing home received letters and drawings and were very grateful to all the children at this extraordinary time.
Hospital staff workers in various hospitals also received letters of support from the children, for the work they are doing in keeping us all safe. Thank you to all the health workers who replied so kindly to the letters, and also sent surprise treats for the children!
Well done to Ms. Lynch and all the boys and girls on this heartwarming initiative in showing we care!

HAPPY RETIREMENT TO MR. MADDENToday is Mr. Madden's last day working as Caretaker in St. Senan's NS and we are all truly saddened to see him leave us. Pat was the epitome of the Best Caretaker! He took pride in the school, always finding ways to improve the building and surrounds and worked way above the call of duty to maintain our school to the highest possible standard.
Pat welcomed us all each morning with a steady smile and good humour. He was ever ready to see out stray footballs on the roof! He thought of the things the children needed in the yard, goal posts, buddy bench, preparing lanes for athletics when Lees Road was looming, when the icy mornings arrive Pat would be on hand to keep the children safe! He pre-empted tasks and jobs that were necessary and always came up with ways to solve a problem. And always a smile and kind word. Pat is a role model for all of us. We are indebted to him for his dedication, hard work ethic and commitment. We will miss him greatly. HAPPY RETIREMENT PAT AND THANK YOU! |

Pupils are now invited to complete a test on their AR book at home after school hours.
Children from 1st - 6th Class have been using the programme for the last number of years
so are well versed on how to complete a test independently. Teachers are connected to the site so we will receive notification on pupils targets as well as scores achieved. Please note it is important that children complete the test on their own.
